TLA’s and FLA’s for India

Lately we have been using a lot of three- and four-letter acronyms to describe various things here in India. It’s hard to understand the real power and meaning behind what these acronyms represent without actually being here and experiencing day-to-day life. Nevertheless, I’m going to start using them in my blog so I’ll go ahead and define them here:

IST – Indian Stretchy Time. Basically, nothing happens on time in India. We might say something will go down in “30 minutes IST”, which means in reality we have absolutely no idea when it will actually be going down.

TII – We ripped this one from Blood Diamond. It means “this is India”. It’s often used out of frustration related to IST or some other domestic annoyance.

OII – “Only in India”. Similar to TII, but usually used out of amazement following the first observation of something crazy or unexpected that happens because we are in India. Such as this (Quicktime-only).

STFU – Not necessarily India-centric, but we have been using it a lot. Coined by The Captain, it means “Shut the f*ck up”.

Happy Belated Birthday, 2007!

New Year’s Eve in Gainesville, FLBasking in the Florida Sun!

Boarding in Big Bear

So I guess I have a lot to cover since my mid-December entry. I have been back to the States to visit and do all sorts of awesome stuff I have been really missing since being in India (like snowboarding, above). Rachel got the chance to meet the rest of my family, and we explored Gainesville and St. Augustine. I’d love to talk about each and every picture, but I just don’t have the time! So here’s a link to 167 of them.

Since I have been back from vacation I haven’t had time to update my blog (notice a trend?). It’s not that I’m blogaphobic or anything, I just hate writing insignificant little entries without any pictures or video to back them up. I’m a perfectionist, which I guess is pretty much the antithesis of what blogging represents.

One of the first things I did when I returned was to attend NASSCOM: Animation and Gaming India 2007. I was fortunate to be on a panel discussion entitled “Making the transition from film to gaming.” It was a lot of fun and I got to meet some great people in the Indian Animation and Gaming industry.

Since I have been back in Noida we have really been focusing on our pipeline for art development and client delivery, and I really think 2007 is going to be the “Year of Exigent!”

Last weekend we had a great time out and about in Noida, and I do have some pictures and video to support that… I’ll try to post another entry tomorrow.
